Holmfirth WI April 2017

Welcome to the new BLOG for Holmfirth WI!

April was our AGM and we enjoyed a talk by Dark Woods Coffee and sampled too. The committee gained some new members, totalling 14 people now, who will be working to ensure Holmfirth WI remains the vibrant and fun organisation it has become.  We now have a magnificent 84 members! If you are wondering who is who on the committee, take a look at our web page COMMITTEE

WI Walk

During April, we also reinvigorated the Holmfirth WI Walking Group.  Fancy a walk? If you use Facebook, look for the Holmfirth WI Walking Group, a closed group (but open to members). This will help us to organise walks.  But we will always endeavour to share information about walks at each meeting too.  We are planning an evening summer walk of about an hour and a Saturday walk of about 2 hours.  We would love members to volunteer to be walk leaders.

calendar girlsBig news arrived … The Calendar Girls are coming to town!  Not the musical but the real deal! Hear their story at the Picturedrome in Holmfirth on Tuesday 20th June, 7pm, tickets £5 from WI or Picturedrome.  Open to all, not just for members.  TICKETS

April was also all about bell ringing!  One of our newest committee members (Debs) has been taking groups to learn the art of bell ringing at a local church.  April also involved members knitting in order to yarn bomb a bike to display for the Tour de Yorkshire, which went through the town on Sunday 1st May.  It was an amazing day for the town. The bike looked stunning and received lots of attention and compliments!

The PURPOSE OF THIS BLOG is to give members a place where you can share, publish or showcase your talents and interests.  Perhaps you have taken some wonderful photos of our valley, perhaps you are involved in an activity you want members to know about?  Perhaps you have a skill or talent to showcase?  Are you a poet, a story writer?  Whatever it is, let us know.

This BLOG will be published monthly subject to sufficient content.  Get your ideas, content, materials to me (Jo) by the meeting in the month prior to the edition you wish to be in.  Holmfirth WI BLOG will be shared with all members but also via our social media feeds which means it will reach a wider audience than members.  So … show us what you’ve got!

BLOG contact: Jo Fletcher-Saxon – jofsaxon@hotmail.co.uk (or see me at the meeting).

If anyone would like to meet to chat in more detail about the BLOG, we can arrange to meet at the same time/place as the knitting group, at Brambles.  Let me know!

The WI Life magazine back in March 2017 featured an article about BLOG writing, see the link here:   WI Life Link
